With the exception of Guadalmina Baja, which has the most luxurious beachfront mansions in Spain, the beachside section of the New Golden Mile, south of the A-7 road, historically consisted of traditional summer cottages from the 1980s. These have given way to several luxury hotels, resorts and major residential developments. The areas that still have detached properties, namely Casasola, Isdabe and El Saladillo, have also witnessed a major transformation with the construction of several luxury beachside villas. In recent years, this area has improved even more, with the new pedestrian path linking Estepona town and Puerto Banus (as part of the “senda litoral” project, which will result in the longest seaside path in Europe). It is a wonderful walk along beaches and green areas and it will lad you past upmarket restaurants.

The upper section of the New Golden Mile, north of the A-7 road, contains a range of different neighbourhoods, each with its distinct character. The crown jewel of this area is Los Flamingos, which is home to the Anantara Villa Padierna Palace Golf Resort and numerous luxury villas, most of which have a contemporary style, infinity pools and panoramic sea views. There are additional upmarket areas in the eastern direction towards Puerto Banus, such as El Paraiso and Atalaya, which also contain luxury apartment developments and villas, surrounded by green areas and the golf courses of El Paraiso, Atalaya and El Campanario.

In the central part of the New Golden Mile, we find the neighbourhood of Selwo, which has a large zoological park with an eco-lodge. This area is now witnessing the biggest urban development, with a new international school, a tennis club, a commercial centre and upmarket residential buildings.

Last but not least, on the western edge of the New Golden Mile, before reaching Estepona, there is the 5-Star Kempinski Hotel Bahía, with neighbouring luxury beachfront developments, such as Mar Azul, Los Granados and Alcazaba Beach. This area is ideal for a holiday home or as a first residence, because it is within walking distance to amenities via the senda litoral walkway, as well as new entertainment centres, such as the new Laguna Beach resort being developed by the Pacha Group.
